Real Estate Development Picking Up in Hokkaido and Niseko

It was repsorted on the Japan Property Central website that development projects are once again on the rise in Hokkaido. On the back of a rise in visitor numbers there are a number of projects underway, the most notable of which may be operated by GHM Hotels (of Aman resorts fame) in Tomokomai due to commence construction in June 2012. Tadao Ando is involved and the investment is said to be over 150 million dollars. Meanwhile, the large 70 unit development Shiki is well underway in Niseko along with the smaller Hotel Ivy. We also understand that the Kogen and J-First hotel sites will be demolished this green season to make way for a large new development at the top of the hill. All in all, you have to say that when these big players enter the market and put the money on the table, it has to be taken as a very positive sign for the region and localities involved.
