Sydney Morning Herald - Have Snow, Want Skiers

Date Added: 14/01/2012
An article in the Sydney Morning Herald today certainly hits the mark when it talks of the abundance of snow in Japan this year but the relatively quiet slopes. One Niseko old-timer confided to me that the conditions we are seeing up here at the moment are 'how it used to be' with truckloads of snow and just the occasional skier. Truth be told, Niseko has never got to a level of busyness where queues or open terrain have become an issue. There are obvious reasons why many have stayed away this year  - ongoing repercussions from the tsunami, a strong Yen, attractively priced North American holidays are perhaps the most obvious.  It seems to be an ideal moment to consider a cheeky late season getaway - you can sure there will be plenty of snow left!
